Hi!
I hit two years of working at Culver’s recently. I work in the front of the house, and the positions I’ve done there are dining room, running, register, cashing out on drive through, and order taking on drive through. I’m going to share some things I enjoy about it below.
Connecting with Customers
I enjoy getting to connect with people that come to Culver’s. My other jobs and businesses definitely did not have this level of interaction with the public. It’s fun, and nice to interact and make connections. There are all sorts of people, of all sorts of ages that come!
Taking Orders
My favorite job at Culver’s is taking orders, both at the front registers and especially on drive through. I was nervous to start taking orders on drive through but now it’s probably my favorite job! It’s fun to fill in people’s orders, and the prompts on the register, and ask questions and everything. And especially on drive through, the job is so satisfying. Maybe it’s partly hearing the sound that signifies there’s someone there, then clicking the button on the headset and answering, then filling out the whole order and pushing all the buttons, and filling their drinks, etc., it’s almost like filling out a satisfying, sensory as well as digital form over and over again. While also sounding nice and pleasant and sometimes making connections with people. It’s also something I can overthink and question, so it can be pretty challenging for me, but I still enjoy it overall.
Connecting with Other Employees
I enjoy making good connections with other employees. I mostly work with people older than me, since I work during the day. I struggle with being more quiet, and am not always the best at taking the initiative to connect, but I do have good interactions with people at times.
The Food and the Culver’s Vibe
I like now knowing the menu more, getting to see and smell the food, and seeing the special items that come and go. Growing up I’ve really loved Culver’s, the food and the smell of Culver’s. I haven’t really gotten sick of that stuff, and I still really enjoy eating there! I don’t get food when I work very often though.
What is something you’ve learned from working at Culver’s?
Being a good boss/manager of something like this, means being involved, doing hard jobs (including ones that go unnoticed), being humble, being kind, being reachable and connectable to all your employees (both in a literal way, but also in a personal way), knowing their names, trying to have personal relationships with many of them, reaching out to them, maintaining high standards and rules but being kind about it, supportive and encouraging of progress made, pushing your employees in ways that are good for them, etc.
