Baking Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies

Hi!

The other night we went to dinner at some friend’s house, and I made pumpkin chocolate chip cookies for dessert. They turned out pretty good, and they were fun to make! I think this was the first time using this recipe, it was from Sally’s Baking. We may have made these kind of cookies in the past, but it’s definitely not a go-to for us to do this flavor combo in cookie form. We usually end up making pumpkin chocolate chip muffins, and we’ve made some other versions of the flavor combo. I didn’t end up taking pictures of the cookies sadly. I’ll share some more below.

What was something you enjoyed about doing this recipe or liked about the final result? I loved the flavor! Pumpkin and chocolate is a great combination in baked goods! I also used dark chocolate chips, which I love! Maybe I should’ve added a bit less of the chocolate chips, to let the pumpkin flavor come out more.

What was something you disliked about this recipe or the final result (if anything)? The recipe says it’s a chewy pumpkin chocolate chip cookie recipe, which I’ve learned that pumpkin makes cookies very cakey because of all the moisture in it. There’s some parts of this recipe that’s different to help make it less cakey, like using melted butter, no eggs, and blotting the pumpkin. My cookies ended up more cakey than I wanted though, and I think it’s because I didn’t blot the pumpkin enough, so it was probably my fault. They were still good like that though!

Also, the recipe says it yields eighteen cookies, but they have to be pretty small cookies if you do that. It’d be nice if they said that it yields twelve, or if they increase the amount of ingredients a bit to make eighteen regular size cookies.

What’s something you might tweak about the recipe or try differently next time? I would blot even more moisture out of the pumpkin puree. I did it a decent amount but I should’ve done it even more, especially by changing out the paper towels on the bottom.

I also should practice reading through the whole recipe and the notes before I make something.

Thanks for reading!

Lucy
