Attending a Milwaukee Admirals Hockey Game

Hello!

The other day, our family and a couple of our friends went to a Milwaukee Admirals hockey game as a part of our homeschool co-op! We had a pretty big section filled with people from our homeschool group!

It was my siblings, mom and I’s first real hockey game, apart from a kids game I watched many years ago.

It was so intense! The players were crazy intense, they skated so fast, they were so competitive and into the game and also the crowd was crazy! There were many schools and groups there and the noise in that stadium… wow. I haven’t heard a crowd that loud in a very long time, if ever. It was so loud and crazy, which part of me liked because it added so much fun and exciting energy to the stadium and to the game, but I also disliked it because it made it very hard to hear the overhead voice on the speakers, any explaining that was going on over the speakers and also just other people talking.

Overall, though, I loved the energy and how fast-paced the game was! I enjoyed rooting for the Admirals in their own stadium and with almost everyone else there rooting for them too! I loved it and it was so much fun! It was also fun to be with our homeschool co-op and hang out with our two friends, especially on the car rides there and back!

What’s something you liked about it (and why)? I loved our seats! We were in the first and second rows and it was super exciting being up there! It did make it hard to see what was going on at the other end of the rink, but it was worth it when the guys were by us skating super fast and knocking into the side so often. There were several times when the puck knocked into the clear wall in front of us too! Every time the guys would ram into the wall I’d jump! I was actually kind of nervous that they’d flip the puck out of the rink and since where we were sitting had no net above to catch it, it could potentially fly into the air and hit us! It did fly up to the area that had a net at least once. Because of that, and because of never knowing when they’d ram into the wall which was only a few feet from us and just how intense they were treating the game, it made it very thrilling, almost in a dangerous way! It wasn’t really that dangerous but it felt like it and it was kind of fun!

I also loved seeing how they can do all of this stuff while on ice and how comfortable they are on it. It was so impressive! I loved it and it’s impressive because I’ve been ice skating a handful of times and it’s very hard!! I’ve never gotten very steady on ice so that’s probably partly why. But I can’t imagine being that comfortable on ice!

What’s something you disliked about it (and why)? I wish I would’ve payed attention more to the game and that I would’ve been able to hear the overhead speakers better. Because it would have made it more interesting and there were many things I missed and didn’t realize until after. To be fair, I’m not great at paying attention to sports games because I don’t want to, and I could have tried better to hear, understand things and listen to my Dad when he’d explain it. So I wish I would have! It’s also hard when the game and the puck moves so quickly!

What was your biggest takeaway or lesson? One of my biggest takeaways was seeing how intense and fast-paced hockey is and how seriously they take take the game! I forgot that I had been to that one game years ago, but I didn’t realize or had forgotten how fierce and passionate they are! I bet a lot of it had to do with being so close, you really feel like you’re in on the action… especially when two guys come barreling into the wall only a few feet from you! They also get into fights pretty often! Nobody took their gloves off and went at it or anything but there were several little fights.

What is something you’re curious to learn more about as a result of this experience? I’d love to learn more about hockey, it seems very interesting and it’s super fun and exciting to watch. I’d also love to go to another game, just as a family! It was way more thrilling, engaging and fun than I expected! I’m very glad we went!

Thank you for reading!
